Fashion: A word that draws attention to superfluous events and over-dramatic personalities. The glamorous events and materialistic mindset is all that comes to mind to those apart of the so-called ‘outside world’ and fall to intimidation to the fashion industry.
Many people truly forget that past the furs and champagne, fashion holds the underlying responsibility to truly reflect the social times in society as designers mirror modern day political and social attitudes throughout their work.
Drawing from the disappointing recent events and political attitudes, SOUL feels the need to follow through with this responsibility in our November issue by taking a stance on America’s current state of division in which she has had to endure. 'American Beauty’ is meant to apprehend the social and political climate of division by thoroughly perpetuating America’s original purpose of her ‘melting pot’ and inclusion of those that call her home.
The team at SOUL does not intend on executing this message because of the superficial ideology of ‘it’s the right thing to do’ but rather, stems from the fact that our own team at SOUL is a ‘melting pot’ internally and that the message truly resonates with each and every one of us. It is a message that we, as an extremely diverse team, find ourselves responsible to further conserve and address since it ultimately involves each of us on an extremely deeper level.
By capturing a diverse selection of people that come from different ethnicities, sexual orientations, body types, etc. SOUL intends on solidifying our stance on the claim that American beauty is not singular but rather varying, diverse and unspecified.
